Position: Managing QS / Commercial Manager

Location: UK North-West (North Manchester)

Salary: circa £65k +Package

 

KMC are working on behalf of a Civil Engineering Contractor located in the North West with an annual turnover of £5M who are looking for an Managing QS/ Commercial Manager to join them and play an integral part in their current expansion plans and be involved with projects across all sectors of the Civil Engineering sector from Infrastructure and Utilities to Groundworks for Housebuilders.

 

The Role:

The Commercial Manager is concerned with winning new business, exploring new avenues of activity and seeking opportunities that the company can exploit in its bid to develop and grow. Responsible for the financial management of projects, putting together bids for new work and negotiating and agreeing contracts, often worth many millions of pounds.

You will oversee company needs, handle daily business issues, manage company associations, and recognise business opportunities. This role will see you constantly communicating and negotiating with clients or business associates. Continuously working to strategically expand, preserve or improve the company’s procedures, standards or policies while sticking to business ethics and regulatory guidelines.

As Commercial manager you are required to utilise your knowledge of business law to verify, oversee or approve commercial agreements and documentation.

The responsibilities of the Commercial Manager will include but not limited to:

·Driving consistency of good valuation/commercial processes both pre and post Contract

·Deliver the pre and post Contract opportunity and risk process including mitigation of risk

·The production of Monthly Cost Value Reconciliations

·Management of dispute resolution in a timely manner

·Represent the Company in contract negotiations and meetings.

·Input into and successful management of the full contract cycle including best practice.

·Manage external customers throughout contract life cycle

·Provide commercial advice including input into tendering and contract reviews

·Manage and lead the Commercial function, ensuring correct operation of the Company’s processes, including evaluation, avoidance and/ or mitigation of any potential commercial risks on projects

·Gain and maintain relationships with key supply chain companies

·Support mobilisation of key contracts commercially with robust processes 

·Support post contract activity by delivering solutions to discrete post contract strategic issues. 

·Develop good strategies for further improving cash flows in this part of the business

 

Required Skills and Experience:

·Commercial Degree or equivalent 

·MRICS or equivalent (ideally)

·Superior management and organisational skills

· Expert negotiating skills and commercial acumen

· Prior Civils industry experience

·Detailed understanding of contract conditions (NEC 3)

·Experience in preparing the legal and commercial aspects of contracts - Procuring subcontractors, agreeing contract terms and administering variations on accounts

·Efficient presentation and communication skills

·The capacity to meet project deadlines

·Solid problem solving, decision making and analytical capabilities
